Bankura Municipality has extended its sphere in some philanthropic activities amongst, which the setting up and running of the ‘ Homoeopathic Dispensary’, known as ‘GURUDASI HOMOEOPATHIC CHARITABLE DISPENSARY, BANKURA,’ aegis deserves a special mention. At the very outset the dispensary was fathered by Dr. Ramdas Chakraborty, a dedicated freedom fighter and a famous Homoeopath, was served the institution since 1924 and in 1937-38 donated a piece of land on the heart of the Bankura town (at Machantala) to this Municipality on which stands the present one storyed building which was named later on the name of a benevolent lady ‘Gurudasi Bhattacharya’ (aunt of world famous journalist Ramananda Chattopadhyaya) of pathakpara, Bankura, the son of Gurudasi, Deputy-Magistrate Ramsadan Bhattacharya gifted a considerable amount of the money for the cause. It was also patronised by the then District Magistrate Brajadurlav Hazra. Dr. Ramdas Chakraborty rendered his service without any remuneration until his last breath (1924-1947). Then Dr. Bhabani Kinkar Chakraborty, the nephew of Dr. Ramdas Babu and also a renowned Homoeopathic Physician of the district worked there as Medical Officer without any remuneration from 1948-1990. Thereafter Dr. Girindra Sekhar Chakraborty, B.H.M.S. (Calcutta University) S/o immediate past physician Dr. Bhabani Babu took over the charge of this dispensary on and from 3rd January’ 1991.

At present Gurudasi Homoeopathic Dispensary of this Municipality treats about one hundred patients each day sincerely and successfully without any cost as it has been running by this Municipality in all respect traditionally with a historical heritage. The dispensary becomes popular day by day for better treatment to all classes of people of this town and surrounding Villages. The authority of this dispensary i.e. Smt. Shampa Daripa, Chairperson, Bankura Municipality and Shri Dilip Agarwala, member C.I.C. Health Sanitation Dept. of Bankura Municipality, has also now taken up a bold & noble step of Conducting ‘Pathological and Radiological Diagnostic Centre’ on its first floor, which will be implemented in near future; so that the poor & middle class people of Bankura town can get the diagnostic facilities in a cheap-rate. There is one AMBULANCE and One HEARSE (Deadbody Carrying ) van for the service of all classes of people on hiring-basis.
